The shovel attaches with magnets, which was a scrapped idea due to weight. The magnets can be seen attached on the inside of the outer flap.
The panel that the tools are attached to is separate from the rest of the kit so that the elastic that holds the tools doesn't show through the outside layer of the kit. It is attached with snaps at the four corners of the kit.
